Welcome to my blog! I'm Gaby, a performance and mindset coach, and I'm thrilled to share my journey with you. This blog is a space where I'll be discussing personal growth, peak performance, and how to unlock your true potential. I'm excited to connect with you and inspire you on your own journey to greatness.
Background
I've wanted to start this blog for a long time, but like many things in life, I was waiting for the perfect moment. I was waiting for recognition, accolades, and validation from the world to tell me I was ready. But then I realized, as I watched many of my mentors and teachers, that I was seeing their ending and not their beginning. I was seeing 10-20 years of hard work and dedication. I was comparing my beginning to their ending, and this comparison was a dream killer. The turning point came when I decided to start despite my fears and doubts. I don't want to just show the finished product but the process in progress. There is beauty in every step, just like when a child goes from crawling to stumbling to walking. I learned a long time ago that magic happens when we take a chance, when we step out of our comfort zone and do something different. So here I am, getting out of my own way and diving in as I am, wherever I am.
Transition to Coaching
The transition to coaching felt like a natural fit for me. Although I have been coaching officially for two years now, I’ve been doing it informally for probably 20 years. My love affair with personal growth and transformation started about 20 years ago in a very unexpected way. One night, while sleeping on my couch, I woke up to an infomercial on TV. It was for Napoleon Hill's book, The Law of Success. I don’t know what came over me—I had never bought anything from the TV before—but in the middle of my hazy sleep, I got my credit card and ordered the book.
When it arrived two weeks later, I spent the entire weekend reading it. I couldn't put it down and read the book cover to cover. By Monday, I started to apply some of the principles in the book, especially the idea of being of service to others. This principle resonated deeply with me and has become a guiding philosophy in my life. Always coming from a place of service has allowed me to never have to look for a job since my very first one. I’ve been fortunate to always be sought out and recruited for every job I’ve gotten since then, thanks to the book that sparked my interest in this world.
As I continued my education, people often came to me for advice and direction. It wasn’t until I did my value determination process that it became crystal clear that my life purpose was about self-mastery and helping others unlock their true potential. Sometimes the most valuable and obvious things are the hardest to see. The simplest thing is the hardest to master.
Challenges and Overcoming Them
Like many of you, I faced my own set of challenges. Imposter syndrome, fear of rejection, and doubts about my effectiveness as a coach were constant hurdles. One vivid memory I have is preparing for my first major coaching session and feeling a wave of doubt. 'Who am I to guide others?' I thought. But I pushed through, reminded myself of my knowledge and experiences, and focused on the value I could bring. That session turned out to be a turning point, reinforcing my belief in my abilities.
Charging for my coaching services was another significant hurdle. I remember the first time I quoted my fees to a potential client. My heart raced, and I feared they would reject me. To my surprise, they agreed without hesitation, validating my worth and the value of my coaching. This experience taught me the importance of valuing my work and not being afraid to ask for what I deserve.
My Coaching Philosophy
When you look at the iPhone, what makes it perform so well is not just the hardware but the software—the operating system. Just like the iPhone, we have hardware and software. While hardware isn't malleable, the operating system is. All the invisible internal stuff that makes a champion a champion is crucial. Life happens, and we go through challenges and hardships that leave imprints if they are not dealt with. These outdated beliefs and fears cause a drag in our system.
Our lifestyle also impacts our operating system and affects our performance. Everything I share and the way I coach is about upgrading the operating system from the inside out. I don't believe in tactics and shortcuts because they only work temporarily. To achieve lasting change and growth, you must upgrade at the root level. What got you to this point isn't going to get you to the next level.
